NEWS Putting our values into action: Janine joins Wycombe Homeless Connection’s winter night shelter

With Storm Benjamin sweeping across the UK, the nights feel darker, colder, and longer than normal. It is hard not to think about those facing the weather without somewhere safe to sleep.
From January through to March 2026, Wycombe Homeless Connection’s Winter Night Shelter opens its doors across local churches, providing warmth, safety and community to people who would otherwise be sleeping rough.
And this month, our Partner, Janine Heil, begins her training to volunteer with the shelter. A volunteer needs to listen with care, respond with compassion, and offer stability when people need it most.
The shelter is more than a place to stay. It is a community effort built on kindness. Local churches host the space, and hundreds of volunteers give their time to make sure guests have a safe bed, hot meals and a chance to feel cared for. The team at WHC also works closely with guests to help them find lasting housing solutions wherever possible.
At Leigh Duncan, we believe that being part of a community means stepping forward when help is needed. We are proud of Janine for putting one of our core values into action and proud to support the remarkable work of Wycombe Homeless Connection in helping people in time of need.
