Probate & LPA fee increases: What you need to know
NEWS Probate & LPA fee increases: What you need to know
Published on December 18, 2025
Two national fee increases came into effect on 17 November 2025. They sound minor on paper, but they will have a real impact for anyone applying for probate or registering a Lasting Power of Attorney.
What has changed?
The cost of a certified copy Grant has risen to £16 per copy. This is a sharp rise from £1.50 and will affect estates with several assets that each require a Grant.
The Office of the Public Guardian now charges £92 to register an LPA. This is up from £82.
Why does this matter?
Probate often needs several certified copies. Banks, investment firms and pension providers usually ask for their own. Even modest estates can need ten or more. At £16 each, this becomes a noticeable cost.
For LPAs, the increase is smaller but still worth knowing. Many people put off preparing their LPAs. With higher fees and longer processing times across the system, delaying can add stress later.
What can you do?
If you are planning to apply for probate, factor the new costs into your preparations. If you already have an LPA drafted but not yet registered, now is a good time to complete the process.
If you have neither in place, it is sensible to review your plans. LPAs in particular offer peace of mind for you and your family.
